SGS Rowing Association

Despite forecasts for heavy rain all day, Sunday in Albany, New York brought decent weather and a good day for SGS rowing as a club. In their first race in a double, our Boys Varsity 2x finished 3rd against much older, larger rowers. The Boys Varsity B 4+ finished 4th in their race, only 0.3 seconds from 3rd, and the Boys Varsity A 4+ finished first and received gold medals. The Girls Varsity A 4+, which is considered a lightweight 4+ rowed in the normal 4+ category and finished 3rd in their race, the Girls Varsity B 4+ finished 7th. The Novice Girls A 8+ also received silver medals, finishing second in their race, and the Novice Girls B 8+ finished right behind them in 3rd. Rowers from the two Varsity Boys 4s rerowed in an 8 in the afternoon, and finished second to Nutley, who in that race set the fastest time of the day.

Head of the Hudson results

The last weekend in May SGS rowing attended the Pittsford Regatta, our away regatta for the Spring season. Through tough competition our boats were competitive and placed well. Special congratulations go to the Lightweight Girls 4+, they won their race and recieved gold medals. Our varsity boys 4+ is in New Jersey this weekend competing in SRAA Nationals. So far, they finished 3rd in their heat and have advanced to semi-finals. They will race semis tomorrow at 10:20am for the chance to go to finals. For up to the minute updates and results, please check out the Live Updates section of the website.

 Update: The boys were eliminated, 6th of 6 in their semi-final, and had the 11th fastest time through all semi-finals. Also, pictures from States as well as Nationals are up, and can be found under the Photos link to the left.

This weekend, SGS Rowing attended the NYS Scholastic Rowing Championships at Fish Creek in Saratoga. As a team we did really well. The Boys Varsity 2x finished 5th in the state and both the Boys Varsity 4+ and the Girls Club 4+ finished 3rd in the state and recieved bronze medals. On both days officials, rowers, and parents struggled with the wind and rain, and the Boys Varsity 4+ was not able to race their final on Sunday, as all finals were cancelled due to high winds.
